First keys delivered to customer for Honda FCX Clarity

The very first set of keys for Honda's brand new FCX Clarity have been delivered to film producer Ron Yerxa and Annette Ballester. The duo took delivery of their new hydrogen fuel cell-powered FCX Clarity on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Honda of Santa Monica. Now that the first production second-gen FCX has been delivered, we'd imagine that Jon Spallino, Jim Salomon, Laura Harris, and

Honda announces more details about FCX Clarity leasing

Honda has just announced details of the leasing program for the new FCX Clarity fuel cell car that was unveiled at the LA Auto Show last November. The Clarity will be the first series "production" fuel cell vehicle available for lease to retail customers and the first examples will be delivered in July of this year. American Honda expects to lease about 200 Claritys during the first three years of the program. Right now, Honda is filtering through the 50,000 people that have shown interest in th

Honda FCX Clarity to be pace car for Japanese IndyCar race

This weekend at the Twin Ring Motegi track in Japan, the Honda FCX Clarity will be showing its pace by taking on the duties of a pace car. The Indy Racing League is making its annual trek to the homeland of engine supplier Honda for the Indy Japan 300 race at the facility near Tochigi. The fuel cell-powered Clarity will take the place of the usual fleet of Honda Accords as it leads the IndyCars to the green flag and keeps the racers in line while the yellow flag is out. This will be the first ra

Detroit Auto Show: Official Honda pictures and videos from the show floor

Sure, we had our own crew at the Detroit Auto Show, but the automakers like to give out their own promotional materials (I just got the Honda 2006 North American Environmental Report in the mail today, for example). If you need a few more glimpses of the NAIAS, why not check out these pictures and videos from Honda (unfortunately, not high-res). For your perusal, we have Honda's official galleries of:

Honda's website revamped to feature green car content

Honda makes some pretty fuel-efficient vehicles, and now the company's official website has been dramatically updated to reflect this. I mean, anywhere you look on the site (pretty much), the green theme jumps out at you. There are featured sections on hybrids, fuel cells, and engines/cars that run on natural ga

EDTA Conference 2006: Ride and Drive photos

Almost right on the steps of the Capitol building in Washington D.C. this morning, a small collection of electric vehicles sat attracting attention. A Honda FCX, a GEM, a new ZENN, GM's HydroGen-3, Hyundai's Tuscon FCEV and a few others. Joggers stopped to ask what the ranges of the fuel cell vehicles were, government officials came by to go for rides, and attendees of the 2006 Electric Drive Transportation Association Conference & Exposition lined up to take the cars out for a spin. So did

Honda FCX concept fuel cell car in depth, Pt. 1 - The new fuel cell stack

In June of 2005 Honda became the first car company in the world to lease a hydrogen fuel cell powered car to Jon Spallino, of Redondo Beach, California. During the 2005-6 auto show season, they showed off a concept version of their first purpose-built fuel cell powered car. Earlier this year they announced that the car would go into low volume production in 2008 and yesterday they allowed a group of journalists to drive the first two prototypes at the Laguna Seca racetrack along with the two of

Honda FCX fuel cell car video review

There are lots of reasons autotech fans are excited about the Honda FCX. That it's the first fuel cell vehicle on the road is the big news, but it's also cool that the engine noise has apparently been replaces with a sort of starship hum. Japan car tech fiends Nihon Car and Bike yesterday put up an HD video review of the FCX taped during a test drive of the FCX in a Japanese city (they don't say whe
