Say it ain't so! How could Harley-Davidson's main manufacturing base be anywhere but Milwaukee, Wisconsin? It would be like a Toledo without Jeep (or Tony Packo's), Detroit without General Motors. A Gotham without Batman. In other words, inconceivable!

Apparently, the increased activity was spurred by speculation of a possible takeover by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.

Not necessarily for a new motorcycle wearing the classic orange and black Bar and Shield logo – not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's your thing – but for one of the last bikes from the recently discontinued Buell brand.
Could Buell be saved from the brink of disaster by officials from Walworth County in Wisconsin? It seems awfully unlikely, but stranger things have happened, right? Harley-Davidson has announced that Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway group will invest $300 million in the motorcycle maker by through a purchasee of senior unsecured notes that will mature in 2014. These funds match a similar investment by Davis Selected Advisers, L.P., which is already the largest holder of company stock. Harley-Davidson will use the money to bolster its lending services, hopefully making it easier for the trouble motorcycle maker to lend cash to consumers. Berkshire Hathaway
