DHL's Global Forwarding division has joined the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership. SmartWay is a collaboration between the EPA and the freight industry that was created back in 2004 with the aim of significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
Nissan is going to the 62nd Hannover Motor Show with a new hybrid model aimed at the freight market: the mid-series Cabstar. This truck gets a hybrid powertrain by adding a lithium-ion power pack (codeveloped with NEC) to the standard 3.0-liter ZD30 150hp diesel engine. Railway operator BNSF Railway Co. is considering building a new railway hub at the Southern California Logistics Airport, which is projected to remove hundreds of trucks off the road thanks to rail's massive freight capabilities. The rail hub would process approximately 50,000 freights cars in the first year.
