New emissions rules may force next gen Saab 9-3 to grow smaller

Upcoming fuel economy regulations in the U.S. and carbon dioxide emissions limits in Europe appear set to take a bite out of the next generation Saab 9-3. The current 9-3 is derived from GM's Epsilon platform and the new 9-3 was due to come off the Epsilon II that underpins the new Opel Insignia, but a change may be in the works. Here's what the Saturn Aura Red Line should be, courtesy of Vauxhall. The Vectra is being replaced by an Epsilon 2-based car called the Insignia. Spy Shots: Next-gen Opel Vectra

The next generation Opel Vectra has been captured in the wilds of northern Sweden where the reindeer outnumber the human inhabitants (at least the permanent ones, not the throngs of engineers who invade every winter) by at least an order of magnitude. Based on the slope of the back-light and the short rear deck, the model in the photos looks like it's probably the five-door hatchback model that's available in Europe.
