American Power Group Inc., a subsidiary of GreenMan Technologies, has signed an EPA Test Vehicle Agreement with Colorado-based Waste Connections to convert a single refuse transfer truck over to APG's dual fuel – compressed natural gas and diesel – system. APG's CNG-diesel setup is designed to be non-invasive and operate within the parameters laid out by the refuse truck's OEM.

Australians looking for a cheaper alternative to gasoline now have a very cost effective option with a dual fuel conversion being offered by Holden. The installation allows Commodores and derivatives to be operated on either LPG or gasoline. Holden recently dropped the conversion price of the system by $1,000 (AUS) from $3,900 to $2,400. The Ute pickup variants went from $4,900 to 3,400. The net cost for sedan buyers can drop to as little as $400 thanks to a $2,000 tax rebate from the federal

Dual-fuel, the next-of-kin to Flex-fuel, is the new hotness over in Iran. At least, according to Iran's Industries and Mines Minister Ali Reza Tahmasebi, who announced that production of gasoline-only cars would be completely replaced with LPG/Gasoline dual-fuel cars by July 23rd. Annual Iranian auto production is over a million, so this really will be a sweeping change, though questions about the availability of LPG are sowing doubts that it will be truly effective.

At the GM/US BioEnergy media event a while ago, GM had, appropriately enough, some of their flex-fuel vehicles from around the world on display. Not to drive, but to peek at. The one that stood out to me was the Zafira, usually sold with the Opel badge, but this particular minivan had the Chevy symbol and lots of Flexpower branding on the sides. GM is doing some tests with the Zafira here in Michigan, but nothing special.

Using a bit of diesel fuel to ignite natural gas in an engine is one way to provide high-power output with lowered emissions. Clean Air Power, which has a unique retro-fit system that gives an engine dual-fuel capability, recently completed trials meant to figure out the benefits of integrating versus retro-fitting its products, and discovered that the cost and CO2 emissions savings are better with the contemporary integrated system.
