The Corsa Motorsports Ginetta-Zytek 09HS hybrid LMP1 car is running in competition for the first time this weekend at the Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports park. After months of delays, Corsa Motorsports is finally ready to hit the track with its new hybrid LMP1 race car. The hybrid race program was originally announced last summer at the Detroit Grand Prix and was set to debut at the Petit Le Mans in October. Unfortunately, development didn't proceed as quickly as hoped with the fall and winter passing by as the car was made ready for competition.
The top LMP1 class is shaping to be a real battle royale at next month's 12 Hours of Sebring. Peugeot has confirmed that it will be campaigning two of its diesel-powered 908 HDi coupes at the American Le Mans Series season opener. The Peugeots will be taking on at least four brand new race cars in this warm-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Over at the American Le Mans Series website, there is a new interview with driver Johnny Mowlem. Mowlem is the lead driver for the Corsa Motorsports team that will be running a hybrid-powered Zytek 07S in 2009. The team originally planned to debut the car this fall at the Petit Le Mans, but decided the car wasn't ready back then.
