With the first deliveries of the i3 under way, and the recent i8 press launch, the marketing push in the US for the BMW electric sub-brand has begun. Though its product range these days is restricted to automobiles and motorcycles, BMW is no stranger to aviation. After all, that's how it got its start. But that was a long time ago.
BMW's product portfolio has expanded far beyond the sports sedans and cabriolets of old to include all manner of vehicles. But a subway train? You betcha.
BMW: Bus, Metro, Walk. That was the tongue-in-cheek acronym we used to refer to public transport back in Montreal where this blogger grew up, but it's San Francisco that's about to have its underground mass transit system overhauled by BMW.

Much like its Porsche Design counterpart, there isn't really anything BMW DesignWorks won't try to make better, from an espresso machine to a custom interior for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. So it was only a matter of time before they put pen to paper and created a yacht, this particular example being a 60-foot offshore performance sailboat for the Zeydon boatyard of Belgium.
You can get Starbucks anywhere from airports to a hospital cafeterias. The coffee giant is so hot right now, even BMW Designworks USA is getting in on the act. The BMW designers created a state-of-the-art espresso machine design that can be purchased at Starbucks for use at home.
