The Audi Urban Concept came out from behind its many renderings today, and yes, it is just as funky in person. In fact, it might be more so – the renderings simply can't prepare you for the soapbox-racer proportions of this dinky 1,000-pound open-wheeler. And even though there are but two seats, we're still intrigued by the thought of gaining ingress through the back of the car.

Audi didn't release any additional information the on the Audi Urban Concept today, but it did let loose a photo rendering album of the e-tron-branded concept in coupe and roadster forms that we'll soon get to know in Frankfurt. Powered by two electric motors, the driver and passenger will get to their staggered seating positions through the tailgate, and can let the sun shine in through the sliding canopy once there if they're in the coupe.
Anyone who's ever driven through a busy city can appreciate having a view upwards. Sunroofs are good, but convertibles are even better. But while the Smart ForTwo is available with a folding roof panel, we don't see many city cars offering the full drop-top experience. Audi, however, is here to ask, Why not? And what's more, it's not wasting any time in doing so.
