Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, formerly powered by Honda to two consecutive American Le Mans Series championships, is now officially powered by Nissan. The Japanese automaker's return to the top tier of US sports car racing comes with Nismo factory backing of the Muscle Milk entry in the newly created TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. Those with long memories will recall that Nissan walked away from America's then top-flight sports car series, IMSA, more than 20 years ago, having won 33 races, t
Audi has announced driver lineups for its customer teams running the R8 LMS GTD in this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona. The Rolex 24 is the first event for the inaugural season of the new United SportsCar Championship series, which merges the old Grand-Am Series with the American Le Mans Series. The new series kicks off January 25.
Having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times, the American Le Mans Series title another three times and, most recently, the FIA World Endurance Championship, Allan McNish doesn't have much left to prove. Which is why he's retiring, ending this stage of his 33-year driving career on a high note.
The 16th Petit Le Mans Powered By Mazda, in the final year of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, was run on Saturday. Even though many of this year's championships had already been decided, the last ALMS race ever would be a 10-hour, 1,000-mile slog around Road Atlanta to get names in the record books and decide a few series trophies.
There is no doubting the fact that it takes nerves of steel to be a racecar driver, but the same can also be said for motorsports photographers. Case in point: The American Le Mans Series Oak Tree Grand Prix at the Virginia International Raceway where two Porsche 911 racecars crash hard into the tire barrier, but the dedicated cameraman stays with the shot – diving away only at the last second just as the battered No. 31 car (shown above) comes to rest atop the tire barriers just feet from
The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) has announced a schedule for the 2014 debut season of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, which combines the Grand-Am and American Le Mans Series (ALMS) events. The 12-race schedule begins at Daytona International Speedway on January 25 and ends at Road Atlanta on October 24. In between, the race travels to 10 other US venues, including Laguna Seca, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Austin's new Circuit of the Americas.
Imitation might be the sincerest form of flattery, but in racing, where something as simple as a car's shape can lead to a competitive advantage, imitation can be a big no-no. That reality is being played out right now, with the DeltaWing prototype and the Nissan ZEOD RC. The two cars, as you can see from the images above, bear a striking resemblance to each other. They're so similar, in fact, that Dr. Don Panoz, one of the big names behind the DeltaWing program, is assigning some legal eagles t
DeltaWing Racing Cars has announced that three DeltaWing coupes are for sale to customers who intend to compete in the 2014 United SportsCar Racing series, a new US-based racing series that combines the American Le Mans Series and Rolex Sports Car Series. Élan Motorsports Technologies will build the pointy racing coupes, which will debut on September 19 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, for an ALMS race.
The last time a factory-backed Viper won a race in the American Le Mans Series was 2000, a season that the then-dominant Viper would've swept entirely had it not lost two of those ten races to the Corvette team. It was fitting, then, that 13 years later, Marc Goossens drove his No. 91 SRT Viper GTS-R across the finish line at Road America on Saturday ahead of two Corvettes.
With Speed TV switching over to Fox Sports 1, there's been a fear among auto enthusiasts that we would be losing out on an easily accessible source for motorsports. A freshly inked agreement between IMSA and Fox, though, should put minds at ease. The deal, which was announced today will see the new United SportsCar Racing come to the new channel. United SportsCar Racing is the entity that emerged from the merger of the Grand-Am Series and American Le Mans Series.
SRT will be documenting its second season – and first full season – of Viper GTS-R racing in the American Le Mans Series with a new web series called Beyond the Checkered Flag. We don't know much yet, but the team has released a teaser video (below) and promises the series will run at least four episodes, if not more. The videos will feature all six drivers who are responsible for piloting the No. 93 and 91 Viper GTS-R cars that compete in each race, and each episode will be told fro
Muscle Milk Pickett Racing's Honda Performance Development (HPD) ARX-03a, piloted by Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr, took the checkered flag at the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series race at Long Beach this past weekend under Southern California's typical warm sunny skies. The P1 class team completed 80 laps during the two-hour race, of which 14 were run under caution for a variety of minor incidents.
It won't be until 2015 at the earliest, but the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), Grand-Am and the Internationale Tourenwagen-Rennen have agreed to a licensing and cooperation deal that could bring a version of Germany's DTM series to the US.
When it comes to technology used in racecars, we generally expect it to trickle down to production cars, not the other way around. Well, Pratt & Miller has developed a new rear-facing radar that operates in a similar fashion to what we're used to in modern blind spot detection systems, only it is also capable of tracking cars as they approach and relaying vital information to the driver via a large display screen.
Starting in June, racing fans in North America will have another way to get their fix. Lamborghini is bringing its Super Trofeo series to the US and Canada in a "long-term" deal that kicks off in a six-race season this year and should bring some extra excitement to the newly formed United SportCar Racing series in coming years.
After the merger between Grand-Am and the American Le Mans Series was announced last year, a contest was held to name the new combined series, and that new name is now officially the United SportCar Racing series. This new branding will take place at the start of the 2014 season beginning with the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Just when we thought the DeltaWing couldn't get any weirder, DeltaWing Racing Cars unveils a new enclosed version of the experimental racer. The coupe is set to bow at Sebring International Raceway this week, complete with an all-new tub to help it comply with 2014 LMP1 regulations. The new racer, to be campaigned without former sponsor Nissan, also features a new engine worked up by the minds at Elan Motorsports Technologies. The open-top machine will still get around the track thanks to a revi
Returning for its sophomore season, numerous changes have been made to the DeltaWing racecar – not the least of which is the fact that it is no longer associated with Nissan – but the most significant update could be a remedy to one of the car's biggest criticisms, its color. In the car's inaugural season, it was reported that other drivers on the track simply couldn't see the racecar, which, due to a combination of its narrow, low-slung stance and its matte black paint scheme, resul
The Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway are a month of racing and reveals, with the season's metal going for the flag at races like the Rolex 24 at Daytona and other cars being introduced to the public. In the latter category is the BMW Z4 GTE (click the image above to enlarge) joining the American Le Mans Series GT class this year with BMW Team RLL (Rahal, Letterman and Lanigan). This machine replaces the M3 GT that completed four years of service and won the class title in 2010 and 20
