Sports car brand reveals its new 911, Macan, and Cayenne Turbo models
MONTREAL, Jan. 17, 2019 /CNW/ - Porsche chose this year's Montreal International Auto Show as the venue to present, for the first time in Canada, the new 2019 Macan, 2019 Cayenne Turbo, as well as the 2020 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S models which celebrated their world premiere in Los Angeles less than two months ago.
2019 Macan
The new Macan comes with an efficient 2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. In combination with its seven-gear PDK dual-clutch gearbox, the compact SUV can go from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 227 km/h. The Macan S is now equipped with a newly developed 3-litre V6 turbo engine. It delivers 348 hp and maximum torque of 352 lb-ft., an increase of 8 hp and 13 lb-ft. of torque compared to the 2018 model. When equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the new Macan S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds quicker than the previous model. The vehicle's top speed is 254 km/h.
With the model having received a full makeover, the most prominent new features in terms of design, comfort, connectivity and driving dynamics include the three-dimensional LED light panel at the rear and the new fully interconnected Porsche communication management system with 10.9-inch touchscreen inside the vehicle. In addition to the new PCM featuring online navigation and Connect Plus, the range of standard features now includes LED main headlights.
The compact SUV will arrive in Canada this summer with pricing starting at $55,500 for Macan and $63,000 for the Macan S.
2019 Cayenne Turbo
Its all-new engine, new eight-speed gearbox, new chassis systems, innovative display, and control concept with total connectivity will take both sport and comfort to the next level. The third edition of the SUV, which has also been enhanced visually, now has mixed tires, and rear-axle steering for the first time. Despite its significantly extended standard equipment, the Cayenne sees a weight drop of up to 65 kg compared to its predecessor and remains perfectly suited to off-road use.
A 550 horsepower 4-litre twin-turbo V8 propels the Cayenne Turbo to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds; with the Sport Chrono Package, the sprint time is just 3.9 seconds. The innovative Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB), standard on the Cayenne Turbo, consists of a cast-iron disc with a tungsten-carbide coating. This finish increases the friction values but also reduces brake dust.
The new Cayenne Turbo is the first SUV to have an adaptive roof spoiler as a component of its active aerodynamics. Depending on the position, this optimizes efficiency, increases downforce on the rear axle and, in the airbrake position, shortens the braking distance from higher speeds. At full braking from 250 km/h, the SUV comes to a stop up to two metres earlier as a result.
The new 2019 Cayenne Turbo is now arriving in Canada with pricing starting from $139,700.
2020 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S
The iconic Porsche 911, now entering its eighth generation, continues to set the standard when it comes to exclusive sportiness. With a much more muscular look, and an interior featuring a 10.9-inch touchscreen monitor, the new 911 is timeless – and modern. Intelligent control and chassis elements as well as innovative assistance systems combine the masterfully uncompromising dynamism that the classic rear-engine sports car is famed for, with the demands of the digital world.
The next generation of flat-six turbocharged engines has been further developed and is more powerful than ever before, now produces 443 hp in the S versions. This corresponds to an increase of 23 hp compared with the previous model by way of an improved injection process and a new layout for the turbochargers and charge air cooling system. As a result, acceleration to 100 km/h benefits from these upgrades: the rear-wheel-drive Coupé needs 3.7 seconds and the 911 Carrera 4S with all-wheel drive just 3.6 seconds, making each car 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor. This advantage is increased by a further 0.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package. The top speeds are now 308 km/h (911 Carrera S) and 306 km/h for the all-wheel-drive version. The power is delivered by a newly developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Additional highlights include the new assistance systems, such as Night Vision Assist with thermal imaging camera, and comprehensive connectivity – which now also uses swarm intelligence. Porsche offers Wet mode – as standard – a function that detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver to make driving on damp roads even safer.
