10 States With The Most Drunk Drivers On The Road
Even after decades of public service announcements begging people to please, drink responsibly, drunk driving still kills 30 Americans a day. The Centers for Disease Control took a deep dive into data gathered by the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to identify trends and patterns in the hopes that they can better understand this risky behavior. The CDC found an incredible four million Americans, about 1.8 percent of the population, admitted to driving drunk at least once each month, according to CBS. That translates to an estimated 121 million inebriated trips each year.
This bad behavior varies quite a bit. Men were responsible for four out of the five drunk driving instances. The rate of drunk driving also varies from state to state. Drunk driving seems to occur overwhelmingly in less populated states. Six of the top offenders, Wyoming, Hawaii, Montana, both Dakotas and Delaware are at the bottom of the list in terms of population. It should be noted that five other states, Alaska, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and West Virginia weren't include in the study due to sampling reasons.
But it's not just states with low population that have a problem with drunk driving. Click through to see the states with the highest rates of drunk driving.
