Collision Mitigated Braking System - Rear

AKA: Automated Emergency Braking System

WHAT IS IT?

Usually part of a comprehensive BCW system, rear CMBS kicks in when a driver ignores a backup collision warning alert. Like front CMBS, it applies brake pressure, stopping the vehicle in time to prevent impact with any obstacles or, more importantly, people or animals in the cars path.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Like front CMBS, rear CMBS uses radar, laser, cameras or a combination of all three to scan the road ahead. When the system determines that your vehicle is approaching an object, it automatically applies the brakes – gently at first, and then ups the pressure to get the car stopped.
