    Attractive and purposeful, the redesigned 2010 Ford Fusion is an excellent choice among midsize sedans.

    With a choice of four- or six-cylinder engines, in addition to front-wheel and all-wheel drive, the Fusion has something for everyone. The powerteams are a 175-hp 2.5L four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, or a 240-hp 3.0L V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The addition of a 263-hp 3.5L V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission is new for this year. The Fusion is available in four trim levels, the S, SE, SEL, and Sport. Safety features include electronic stability and traction control, security system, six-airbags, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

    The Accord is Honda's largest car, offering generous interior space for up to five people wrapped in stylish exterior sheet metal.

    The Accord comes either as a two-door coupe or four-door sedan with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6 engine. The four-cylinder engines are available in five-speed manual or automatic transmission for both styles of the Accord, while the V6 sedan is only available in five-speed automatic. The V6 coupe is available with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. Cloth upholstery is standard on all but the EX-L models which feature leather seats and a leather-covered steering wheel. Safety is enhanced on all Accords with six standard airbags, including side-impact air bags for front seats and side curtain air bags. Four-wheel disc, anti-lock brakes, Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, Brake Assist and active front head restraints also come standard.

    The larger and more sophisticated Mazda6 is aimed squarely at the other Japanese family sedans that dominate the mid-size car segment in North America.

    Buyers can choose between two engines, a 170-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a 272-hp 3.7-liter V6 engine. The 2.5 can be teamed with either a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic, while the V6 is bolted exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. Standard safety equipment includes tire pressure monitoring, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability and traction control, side-impact and side-curtain airbags, while a blind spot monitoring system is standard on Touring Plus and Grand Touring trims.

    The Hyundai Sonata is a four-door, five-passenger sedan that has an established reputation for being well built and excellent value for money. It holds its own when compared to other mid-sized cars in this competitive class.

    Motivation comes from a 175-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, with the choice of a five-speed manual or a Shiftronic five-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 249-hp 3.3-liter V6 mated to a Shiftronic five-speed automatic transmission is also available. Safety features on all Sonatas include the mandatory dual-stage front-seat airbags; front-seat side-impact airbags for torso protection; and full-coverage side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake assist, and electronic stability control with traction control.

    The Kia Optima is a five-passenger, front-drive, mid-size sedan which places it in the most competitive car class today.

    The Optima is available in three trim levels; LX, EX and SX. The LX is equipped with a 175-hp 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder. The EX and SX trims can be had with the same 175-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder, or a 190-hp 2.7-liter V6. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the LX, while a Sportmatic five-speed automatic is available on the LX and standard on EX and SX trims. The SX upgrades to sport-tuned suspension, a black mesh grille, blacked-out headlights and hyper-silver 17" alloy wheels. Standard safety features include traction-control, stability-control, four-wheel antilock brakes and a tire pressure monitor.

    The Subaru Legacy is a full-time all-wheel drive sedan that has been completely redesigned for 2010.

    The Legacy is available with a 170-hp naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed manual transmission (or optional six-speed CVT), or a 265-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed manual transmission, or a, new for this year, 3.6-liter six-cylinder with a five-speed automatic. The CVT and automatic transmissions feature a manual mode with paddle levers on the steering wheel. Limited models feature leather seating, a six-disc 440-watt nine-speaker harman/kardon audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and Bluetooth hands-free phone capability.

    Available with front-wheel drive with a six-speed manual or CVT transmission, or all-wheel drive with CVT, the Kizashi offers exceptional value in S, SE, GTS, and SLS trims. The Kizashi is equipped with a 185-hp 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine with the six-speed manual or a 180-hp version with the CVT. Standard features include sport bucket seats, projector headlamps, keyless ?Smartpass? pushbutton start system, automatic dual-zone climate control, and steering wheel audio controls. Safety features include a class exclusive eight airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes, and tire pressure monitoring system. As well, the Kizashi already meets 2014 NHTSA crash standards.
