For 2009 the Grand Vitara is offered in four trims: Base, Premium, XSport and Luxury. New for 2009 the standard engine is a 166-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Also new for 2009 is an upgraded 230-hp 3.2-liter V6 matched with either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and Suzuki's 4-Mode, full-time 4WD system with transfer case lock and low-range is optional. Safety features include side-impact and side-curtain airbags, 4-wheel ventilated disc anti-lock brakes, and an electronic stability system with traction control.
14. Toyota FJ Cruiser

The FJ Cruiser is available in one trim with a choice of three drivetrains: a rear-wheel-drive version equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission, a part-time four-wheel-drive version with a five-speed automatic transmission, or a full-time four-wheel-drive version with a six-speed manual transmission. All versions are powered by a 259 hp 4.0-liter V-6 engine. The FJ Cruiser seats up to five passengers. Safety features include Toyota's STAR Safety System that includes vehicle stability control, traction control, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Dual-stage front airbags, side-curtain and front-seat side airbags, and front active headrests are standard.
13. Mitsubishi Outlander

The Outlander is available in three trims: ES, SE, and XLS. Each is available with a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive system. The standard engine on the ES and SE trim is a 168-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) transmission. The XLS trim is equipped with a 220-hp 3.0-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Safety features on all Outlanders include six-airbags, vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, and a tire-pressure monitor.
12. Toyota 4Runner

The 4Runner's three trim levels; SR5, Sport Edition, and Limited, are available in rear- or four-wheel drive. Each trim has a five-speed automatic transmission and either a 236-hp 4.0-liter V6 or a 260-hp 4.7-liter V8. The V8 engine boosts the 4Runner's tow rating to 7,300 pounds. An optional third-row seat expands the passenger capacity to seven. Stability control, traction control, driver and passenger seat-mounted side airbags, and first and second row side-curtain airbags with roll-over sensors are standard.
11. Kia Borrego

The Borrego is available with rear-wheel or four-wheel drive systems, in either LX, EX, or Limited trims. Two drivetrain choices are available, the first, a 276-hp 3.8-liter V6 mated to five-speed automatic, or a 337-hp 4.6-liter V8 mated to an all new six-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity with the 3.8-liter V6 is rated for 5,000 pounds, while the 4.6-liter V8 is capable of towing 7,500 pounds. Standard features include seven-passenger seating, integrated rear tow hitch, cruise control, and roof rails. Standard safety features include full length side curtain airbags, seat mounted airbags, driver?s knee airbag (V8 only), active front head restraints, electronic stability program, and back-up warning system.
10. Kia Sorento

The Sorento is available in rear-wheel drive Base, LX and EX trims, or as a four-wheel drive LX or EX trim. The Base and LX trims come standard with a 242-hp 3.3-liter V6 engine while the EX models are powered by a 262-hp 3.8-liter V6 engine. A five-speed automatic transmission with manual sequential shifting mode is the only transmission offered. Standard safety features include side curtain and knee airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, active front head restraints and an electronic stability system.
9. Dodge Nitro

The Dodge Nitro comes in both a 4x2 and a 4x4 version, which can be had as either the SE or the SXT trim. Both trims come with a standard 210-hp 3.7-liter V6 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 260-hp 4.0-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission is offered on the SXT trim. The Nitro's SE trim offers standard amenities such as power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry, satellite radio, air conditioning and seating for five. The SLT adds alloy wheels, power driver's seat, cruise control and an overhead console with a trip computer, compass and exterior temperature display. Standard safety features include: front airbags, side curtain airbags, active head restraints, traction and stability control with roll-over mitigation, brake assist, and a tire-pressure monitor.
8. Jeep Patriot

The Jeep Patriot is available in two trims, Sport and Limited, which have a standard 172-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission; A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is optional. A 158-hp 2.0L engine, available with the CVT only, is available on the FWD Sport trim. The Patriot shares its small-SUV platform with the Jeep Compass but offers off-road capability its sibling does not. It is available in front-wheel drive or with a four-wheel-drive system which utilizes a "lock" mode to enhance traction in inclement weather. The optional Freedom Drive Off-Road Group includes a continuously variable transaxle with a low range that engages when the off-road mode is activated. The package also features hill-descent control, brake lock differential, and an extra inch of ground clearance.
7. Nissan Xterra

The Xterra is available in four trim levels: X, S, Off-Road, and SE. Rear-wheel or four-wheel drive is available, with the Off-Road only available on four-wheel drive models. All models are powered by a 261-hp 4.0-liter V6. Six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions are available. With the availability of features like alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, roof rack, and skid plates, the Xterra really is a go anywhere vehicle. Standard air-conditioning and bucket seats make any journey more civilized. Safety equipment for all Xterra's consists of dual-stage front supplemental air bags, front seatbelt pretensioners, traction control, stability control, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
6. Nissan Pathfinder

The Nissan Pathfinder is a mid-size SUV suited for everything from a suburban lifestyle to off-road adventures. It provides rugged performance and styling in a comfortable package.The Pathfinder is equipped with a 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces 266-hp. A 5.6-liter 310-hp V8 is available on the four-wheel drive version. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Pathfinder seats seven and includes such safety features as active head restraints, six airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and tire pressure monitoring.
5. Kia Sportage

The Sportage is a five passenger vehicle that comes in two trims: LX and EX. The choice of front-wheel or four-wheel drive is available for both trim levels. Engine choices are either a 140-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 173-hp 2.7-liter V6. A four-speed automatic is standard for all V6 models, while a five-speed manual is standard on the four-cylinder LX. Standard safety features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic stability program, traction control, privacy glass, and six airbags, including side curtain airbags.
4. Jeep Liberty

The Liberty is available in two trim levels, Sport and Limited, each is offered with two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive systems. The standard powertrain in all Liberty models is a 210 hp 3.7-liter V6 and a four-speed automatic transmission. The Explorer is available in rear-wheel, four-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, with a choice of three trim levels: XLT, Eddie Bauer or Limited (XLT and Limited only on all-wheel drive models). Two powertrain combinations are available: a 210-hp 4.0-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims, while a 292-hp 4.6-liter V8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission is optional on the Eddie Bauer and Limited. The two-door Wrangler is configurable in either Sport, Sahara and Rubicon trim with standard four-wheel drive. The standard 3.8-liter V-6 engine produces 202 horsepower, and the standard transmission is a six-speed manual with overdrive. An optional four-speed automatic with overdrive is available. Electronic stability control with roll control, traction control, brake assist and hill hold control are standard on all Wranglers. The Sahara offers body colour flares, Infinity speakers, remote keyless entry, power window, security alarm and 18-inch wheels. The Rubicon features equipment that off-road enthusiasts usually add anyway, including heavy duty axles, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 32-inch BF Goodrich mud tires, sway bar disconnect system, rock rails and a heavy-duty transfer case with 4:1 low-gear ratio. The available Freedom Top three-piece modular hardtop allows panels to be removed above the driver or passenger.
