Race on Sunday, sell 275 on Monday
The Mercedes-AMG Project ONE is an astonishing hypercar just on stats alone. It can do 217 mph, it makes 1,000 horsepower, and it's faster to 124 mph than the monstrous Bugatti Chiron. But the stats are only one half of the appeal. The other half is the fact that the Project ONE draws its inspiration and technology from the Mercedes F1 team's dominant race cars. We've highlighted key features that the Project ONE and the Mercedes F1 W08 EQ Power+.- Image Credit: Mercedes-AMG
Paint
To make the Formula One connection positively undeniable, even when the car is shut off, Mercedes-AMG endowed the Project ONE with the same paint scheme as the race cars. The body is coated in a muted silver with teal blue swooping lines on the flanks to match the hue of the Mercedes team's sponsor, Petronas. Another teal highlight comes in the EQ logo, which connects the car to the upcoming line of electrified cars from Mercedes.- Image Credit: Daimler AG
Roof scoop and fin
Though the current Mercedes F1 car's rear fin has diminished in size from previous years, it still exists. The Project ONE naturally gets one, too, though a more prominent one. It trails off another F1 hallmark, the high-mounted center intake scoop. AMG says the fin helps with lateral stability, which is something you want when taking the car to its top speed of 217 mph.- Image Credit: Mercedes-AMG
Exhaust
The exhaust shares the same center exit as the F1 race cars. The unique layout of one large exit with two small supplemental outlets AMG says was taken directly from the race cars, for which the design was developed.- Image Credit: Mercedes-AMG
Interior
It's impossible not to see the correlations between the Project ONE's cockpit and an F1 car. Instantly recognizable as F1-style equipment is the rectangular steering wheel. It comes with a full complement of controls for setting the transmission to manual, adjusting traction control, switching off stability control, and it has a built in LED rev counter at the top of the wheel. But because it is a road car, there are still controls for your phone and cruise control. The bare bones seating positions are race-inspired, too.- Image Credit: Daimler AG
