Nov 19, 2010
Introduction
Los Angeles may be known first and foremost as the home of Hollywood and the entertainment industry, but the City of Angels is also a haven for car lovers. The L.A. Auto Show has been lately carving out its own identity, stressing green themes and focusing on Asian carmakers, many of which have their American headquarters in Southern California. All the while, American marques such as Cadillac have rolled out special vehicles specifically designed for Los Angeles.
We’ve compiled a gallery of the biggest stories from this year’s show in sunny SoCal. Everything from eccentric EVs to powerful performance machines has made 2010 a truly memorable year in Los Angeles.- Read More at AOL Autos

Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept
Cadillac, usually an automaker that likes to go big, has taken a stab at scaling things back with the 2010 Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept. The Urban Luxury Concept is a vehicle designed for people who live in a city and need a smaller vehicle, but don't want to compromise on the upscale tech.

2011 Kia Optima Hybrid
Kia unveiled the third member of its Optima family – the Hybrid. Just like the Sonata Hybrid with which is shares a platform, the gas/electric Optima uses the same 2.4-liter direct-injected inline-four, mated to an electric motor. Combined with a six-speed automatic transmission, the Optima Hybrid will yield 40 miles per gallon on the highway – besting its eco-minded competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid.

2012 Saab 9-4X
The 9-4X takes aim at the luxury crossover segment and is prepared to do battle with some heavies, such as the Audi Q5, Lexus RX and BMW X3. This Cadillac SRX platform-mate arrives chock full of up-market goodness like eight-way power adjustable seats, Bluetooth connectivity and a tri-zone climate control system as standard features.

Toyota RAV4 EV Concept
Proudly "Powered by Tesla," the brand-new Toyota RAV4 EV is pretty much what you'd expect: A current-generation RAV4 with the heart of a Tesla Roadster. Or maybe a Tesla Model S. In any case, one of Silicon Valley's electric cars. As we've known, Tesla's role in the partnership is to develop the powertrain -- including the battery, power electronics module, electric motor, gearbox and software -- for Toyota's popular CUV.

Honda Fit EV Concept
We were a bit miffed at the Paris Motor Show this year when Honda debuted its hybrid version of the Fit (called Jazz in other markets) and told us there were no plans to bring it to the United States. Bigger plans were in the works, however, and we've now caught our first glimpse at the Fit EV concept.

Subaru Impreza Concept
One of the biggest surprises of the 2010 LA Auto Show has to be the Subaru Impreza Design Concept. Some thought it might be a long-awaited coupe, but in reality what we have here is a conceptual sedan that the Japanese automaker claims will heavily influence future models.

2011 Porsche Cayman R
Porsche has pulled the silk off its all-new 2011 Cayman R, the latest variant of the German automaker's two-seat coupe. Aside from the obligatory decals and badging designed to differentiate this new flagship Cayman from its siblings, the Cayman R boasts a chassis that has been lightened by about 120 pounds and a handful of other tweaks.

Nissan Ellure Concept
Nissan calls its Ellure concept "the sedan re-imagined," previewing what sort of design is possible for its forthcoming four-door range. This concept is at once elegant and aggressive, with styling elements that don't stray too far from what the automaker is currently putting out. Those headlamps, for example, use the same fin-like design of the taillights on the 370Z and Juke, and are a more forward-thinking version of what we currently see on the Maxima.

2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet
Say what you will about cutting the roof off of a crossover. We're growing a CUV-sized soft spot for the 2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. It's not that the vehicle is going to be snagging a design award any time soon – far from it. But there's something to be said for a company hitching up its britches and doing something completely off the wall. And this, kids, is the definition of off the wall.

2012 Buick Regal GS
Alright, so the 2012 Buick Regal GS isn't the Americanized version of the 325-horsepower, all-wheel-drive Opel Insignia OPC we were promised. Still, this sports sedan has a turbocharged and direct injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission and has enough visual flare to certainly give the impression of fast. It even sports Buick's trick HiPerStrut front suspension to reduce torque steer through the front wheels.

Mazda Shinari Concept
Mazda's current Nagare design language starts with smiling faces and moves back into wavy body panels. It's hit and miss on the automaker's existing lineup of cars. The Mazda Shinari Concept, which we previously saw in Milan and now makes its North American debut here, aims to change that.

2012 Range Rover Evoque Five-Door
We first met the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque at this year's Paris Motor Show, but its five-door sister made its debut in L.A. The Evoque is a huge departure from what we've commonly known of things that wear the Range Rover name, and it's poised to be a real hit amongst the urban, luxury lifestyle set. Power comes from a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, and all-wheel drive is standard. It is a Land Rover, after all.
