Toyota struggles to keep up with hybrid demand

Potential Prius owners are waiting as long as four months to get their hands on one, a Detroit News report claimed today. Demand for hybrids is elevated thanks to ever-rising gas prices — a situation no one imagined ten years ago when Toyota first displayed the hybrid concept. Consumers want more of Ford's Escape Hybrid and Honda's hybrid vehicles than ever before, but demand for these vehicles are eclipsed by that of the Toyota Prius, and Toyota's having trouble keeping up. Toyota says it will produce 400,000 Prius vehicles next year, up from 300,000 this year.
