The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is a fully redesigned version of the midsize pickup truck. The engine line-up is now only turbocharged four-cylinder units. All of them are 2.7-liter engines, but in different outputs. The base makes 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque, while the high-output versions make 310 horsepower and either 390 or 430 pound-feet of torque. They all come with an eight-speed automatic and either rear- or four-wheel drive. Only one cab configuration is available: crew cab with a short bed. Most trim levels return with a new Trail Boss that slides between the Z71 and ZR2 in regards to capability. The interior of the Colorado has also been overhauled and should take advantage of the additional 3.1 inches of wheelbase. An 8-inch instrument screen and 11-inch infotainment screen are standard on even the base Colorado.

JOEL STOCKSDALE: This is the 2023 Chevy Colorado. This is a fully redesigned midsize pickup truck from Chevy. This particular version is the ZR2, which is the top spec off-road model that comes with Multimatic shocks, and skid plates, and the biggest suspension lift, 33-inch tires, lots of visual enhancements.

But, broadly speaking, there's a lot to talk about the Colorado. One of the biggest ones is that it's going to a four-cylinder powertrain only. You have the choice of three output options. The base one is a 2 point-- and they're all 2.7-liter turbocharged four cylinders. The base one makes around 237 horsepower. And the higher-rated ones make 310 horsepower.

There's two versions of that. One makes 390 pound-feet of torque. And the one in the ZR2 makes over 400 pound-feet of torque. Those two engines are related to the 2.7-liter engine in the full size Chevy Silverado.

The new engine is packed in a new body, which is about the same length and width as the old one. But it's a 3.1 inch longer wheelbase. It's also now only available in the crew cab, standard-length-bed configuration. Extended cab and long-bed versions are no longer available. That 3.1 inch longer wheelbase should make the interior much roomier.

And the interior sees a significant improvement. It gets a standard 8-inch instrument cluster and slightly larger than 11-inch, touchscreen infotainment system. Towing capacity for it, it ranges between 3,500 and 7,700 pounds, depending on which configuration. Base models are available with two-wheel drive. And, obviously, four-wheel drive is available as an option. Only one transmission is available, an eight-speed automatic.

Most of the trim levels are the same as before. But one of the new trim levels being offered is the Trail Boss. It's an off-road model that slides in between the typical Z71 package and the ZR2. It doesn't have the Multimatic shocks. But it does have more suspension lift. And it also comes with 33-inch tires. So if you're looking for something a little bit more budget oriented but offers more off-road capability, the Trail Boss is there for you.
