Adventure 4dr All-Wheel Drive
2021 Toyota RAV4

With characterful styling, a high-quality cabin and an available hybrid powertrain that delivers best-in-class fuel economy, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 stands ahead of top rivals in key areas while pretty much matching their feature content and driving dynamics. It's not quite as spacious as the previous-generation model or rivals like the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester, but for most, the newfound style introduced last year should be a welcome tradeoff. It's a must-drive for those looking for a compact SUV, and given its myriad variations, multiple test drives are recommended.

For 2021, the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid joins the lineup. This 302-horsepower performance model tops the RAV4 hierarchy and offers both brisk acceleration and EV-only operation for up to 42 miles.

The gas-only 2021 RAV4 is offered in LE, XLE, Limited, Adventure and TRD Off-Road trims. The base trim is so well equipped that many buyers will be happy sticking with that, especially since like most Toyotas, accident avoidance tech comes standard. That said, we're very much taken by the off-roady style offered by the Adventure and TRD Off-Road as well as their distinctive capability. Beyond that, it's hard not to wholeheartedly recommend the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid as the version to get. Offered in LE, XLE, Limited and the sporty XSE Hybrid trim level, it produces more horsepower than the base engine (219 versus 203) and achieves a sensational 39 mpg combined. The RAV4 Prime rules the roost with 302 horsepower and 42 miles of all-electric range.
