2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

2021 Range Rover Sport Photos
The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is the second from the top Range Rover rung, and as the name implies, it's a smaller and sportier entry than its big brother, simply known as Range Rover. While it’s not as big and plush as its larger sibling, the Range Rover Sport does provide more space and luxury than comparable SUVs from other automakers. The tradeoff is that the Range Rover Sport also has a somewhat high price tag and isn’t as sporty feeling as the competition. As a whole, the Sport offers compelling design, strong off-road capability and an intriguing lineup of engines that range from a thrifty diesel to the 575 horsepower SVR model that growls, crackles and pops like a Jaguar F-Type R.

For 2021, the Range Rover Sport is mostly unchanged except for some new special editions and features. The special editions are mainly just appearance packages. The HSE Silver Edition finishes the grille surround, door handles, hood vents and lettering in a silver color with unique 21-inch wheels. The SVR Carbon Edition features various carbon fiber accents around the exterior, along with a carbon fiber hood with a center section exposed. It gets 22-inch wheels. The Premium Black Pack is only for the P525 HSE Dynamic and is like the HSE Silver Edition, but with black accents instead of silver. It also gets a black roof and either 21- or 22-inch wheels.

You'll see a variety of alphanumeric names associated with the Range Rover Sport, which determine engine and trim level. P360 is the 3.0-liter inline-six that features an electrically powered supercharger to produce 355 hp (SE and HSE trim levels) or 395 hp (HST trim). The TdV6 is the diesel model that produces 254 hp and, crucially, 443 pound-feet of torque (SE and HSE). It achieves a relatively excellent 24 mpg combined. The P400e is the plug-in hybrid (HSE and SV Autobiography) that combines a turbocharged four-cylinder with and electric motor for 398 horsepower. It also is capable of going 22 miles on electricity alone. The P525 is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 good for 515 hp (HSE and SV Autobiography trims). The SVR model has the same engine turned up to 575 hp.

Of all these choices, the new plug-in hybrid is the most compelling given its refined driving experience and better fuel economy, but there's certainly nothing wrong with the base inline-six. The supercharged V8 is another sweetheart with amazing throttle response, torque and sound.

Inside, the Range Rover Sport provides superb outward visibility and a high-tech, elegant interior. The infotainment isn’t the easiest to use, though. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. There’s plenty of space for both front and rear passengers, so anyone should be able to get quite comfortable.
