Touring the USA

Purchased an Ascent Touring in June 2020. Splurged on the Touring Model. Mainly got the Ascent to tow a small lightweight travel trailer. Needed to drive across the US from Oregon to Florida. Having an RV meant no hotel stays, or waiting till the next rest stop during COVID Pandemic. We bought a lightweight RV and with all our gear weighed in at the Truck stop at 3,100 lbs. with a tow capacity at 5000 lbs we were set. We did expect to have more fuel expense w the rv towing. What we did not account for was a Gas mileage so bad we had to be extremely vigilant to gas up at every 50 miles. The gas milage was 5-10 mpg. Hung at 5-7 miles per gallon across the whole trip. With a smaller gas tank, this was a painful awakening. With my spouse and I young retirees from professions that lend toward safety, we did not speed, and drove to keep from wasting fuel. Used cruise control, avoided mountains, etc. This gas mileage should have a great big warning! No person should have to stop and gas up every 50 miles. We tried to keep the tank at half full after watching the gas gauge move to near zero in the middle of Wyoming. I wish we would have purchased the Toyota Tundra. With a bigger tank, crap gas mileage would not be such a scary travel experience. Oh, the warming function on the seats were NOT worth the money!
