2.5 SL 4dr All-Wheel Drive Sedan
2020 Nissan Altima

The 2020 Nissan Altima offers snazzy looks and some very interesting powertrain options. All-wheel drive is available, as is a technologically impressive VC-Turbo engine with variable compression for enhanced power and fuel economy. It’s a more intriguing choice in the mid-size sedan segment than it’s ever been, even with healthy competition from other Japanese and Korean brands. Nissan modernized the interior and gave the new Altima the technology it needs to compete against the others on an even playing field, and it’s much better for it.

Most of the changes to the Altima for 2020 revolve around safety equipment. Nissan made its Safety Shield 360 suite of driver assistance equipment standard on the SR trim and made the Driver Assist package optional on the S trim. Piano black interior trim is added to the SV, SL and Platinum trims as an appearance enhancement, and the Platinum trim also adds a mirror memory function.

Nissan offers five different trim levels for the Altima: S, SR, SV, SL and Platinum. Every trim level comes with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder as standard, matched up with a continuously variable transmission. It makes 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque with front-wheel drive — the all-wheel drive model has 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is available with every trim level. Fuel economy is 32 mpg combined with front-wheel drive (31 mpg for the SR and Platinum grades) and 30 mpg with all-wheel drive. The 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine is optional on the SR and Platinum grades, and it’s only available with front-wheel drive. Power is strong at 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Combined fuel economy dips to 29 mpg with the VC-Turbo.
