2016 BMW M3
The M3 was first launched in 1986 by M GmbH who took what they learned on the race track to develop a high-performance street car that lives up to its motorsports heritage. Now into a fifth generation, the M3 name carries on as a sedan only at the top of the 3-series family. The M3 is powered by a twin turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine that produces 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. All that power is driven through the rear wheels via two different transmissions, either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed double-clutch, and an Active M differential. High-performance anti-lock brakes with cross-drilled discs work with electronic stability control, 18-inch aluminum wheels and M sport suspension to keep things under control. The roof is now carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), which helps to lower weight and the center of gravity. The driveshaft and front end strut brace are also made of CFRP. Available options include satellite radio, park distance control, surround view cameras, adaptive LED headlights, head-up display, high-beam assistant, lane change warning, carbon ceramic brakes and adaptive M suspension. For 2016, full LED brake/taillights, Comfort Access keyless entry, satellite radio and harman/kardon sound system are all now standard equipment.
