Available in T5 and R-Design trims the front-wheel drive C30 has a sporty front MacPherson strut/rear multi-link suspension. Powered by a 227-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five-cylinder engine, it is matched with a six-speed manual transmission or five-speed Geartronic automatic. The safety features are up to Volvo's excellent standards with six airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, whiplash protection, side-impact protection, and stability traction control. Volvo continues its' Custom Build ordering process, allowing the customer to select almost any combination of options. The 2009 Volvo C30 carries over from 2008, adding the R-Design package.
