2007 Suzuki Reno
The Suzuki Reno continues on for 2007, one year after a significant redesign. The entry-level hatchback is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that makes 127 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque thanks to double overhead camshafts and four-valves-per-cylinder. Styling, courtesy of Italdesign-Giugiaro, is far from ordinary.The only extra trim level is the Reno with convenience package. For $14,499 you get audio controls on the steering wheel, remote keyless entry, cruise control, and an alarm.The Reno is packed with plenty of standard equipment for its class, including air conditioning, an eight-speaker stereo with CD and MP3 capability, heated power outside mirrors, intermittent wipers, power windows and locks, and a tilt steering wheel. We liked the way the center console cupholder accommodated both large and small containers, and that the cubby in the front of the console housed an extra 12-volt socket, making this space the perfect place to store your cell phone.The level of safety equipment is good for this segment, too. Not only are there the federally mandated front air bags, but seat-mounted side air bags are present as well. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard, and anti-lock brakes are optional.The interior is has a lot to recommend it. We liked the sunglass holder in place of the grab handle above the driver's head. The heating and air conditioning knobs were easy to use. The front seats are very good for around town. The 60/40 split rear seat allows cargo capacity to expand from 8.4 cubic feet, to 45.4 cubic feet. For passenger duty the back seat legroom is surprisingly roomy.The Reno's brakes are good, and the car rides surprisingly well for its size. The suspension is obviously geared more towards ride comfort than handling, and that's what most people want in a car like this. Suzuki offers a very good warranty as well, with powertrain coverage for 100,000 miles.In addition to ABS, two optional packages are available. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, a rear seat armrest with cup holders, and an additional storage bin accompany the Convenience Package. A Luxury Edition swaps the steel wheels with alloys, adds a sunroof and leather seats, and gives a chrome appearance to the interior door handles.
