Overview

The Chevrolet Volt is a five-passenger, five-door compact hatchback plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. For (up to) the first 40 miles, the vehicle drives gas- and tailpipe-emissions-free using electricity stored in its lithium-ion battery. When the Volt's battery runs low, a gas-powered, engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 300 miles on a full tank. The Volt is powered by an 120kW electric motor and 18.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, enabling it to travel approximately 40 miles on a charge. The 1.5-liter gasoline range extender generates electricity and provides around 300 extra miles of driving. The battery can be charged with a standard household 120-volt outlet in about ten hours, or in about four hours with a 240-volt outlet (similar to a clothes dryer outlet). Standard features include automatic climate control, 17-inch aluminum wheels, passive entry, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Chevrolet 4G LTE, OnStar Guidance and Bluetooth connectivity. Optional equipment includes heated driver and passenger front seats, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob, outside heated power-adjustable mirrors and adaptive cruise control. Trim specific safety features include ten airbags, traction control and stability control, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert Sensor, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, low speed front automatic braking, following distance sensor indicator, rear park assist and a rear camera. Changes for the 2018 Chevrolet Volt include a power driver seat a 7.2kW high-voltage charging module while the radio on the Premier Trim gets a High Definition upgrade.
