Overview

The Toyota Prius Prime is one of the newest additions to the Prius family, expanding a lineup of gas-electric hybrid vehicles that has set the standard for environmentally-friendly transportation. This front-wheel drive, five-door liftback delivers the same impressive fuel economy and low emissions as the standard Prius model, with the added benefit of extended electric vehicle (EV) driving. The Prius Prime is available in three trim levels: Plus, Premium and Advanced. All trim levels employ Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, a hybrid powertrain technology that unites a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gasoline engine with a powerful electric drive motor to generate 121 combined horsepower; a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard. In addition, an 8.8 kWh lithium ion battery with onboard charger allows a range of up to 25 miles of true electric vehicle operation; a full charge using an external 240-volt AC outlet can take as little as 2.1 hours. Trim-dependent equipment includes: 15-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, automatic climate control, heated front seats, eco-friendly SofTex upholstery, passive entry/start, HD/satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity/music streaming and an 11.6-inch touchscreen display, along with smartphone integration, wireless device charging and voice-activated navigation. Standard safety technologies include anti-lock brakes with brake assist, vehicle stability and traction control systems and a rear backup camera, as well as eight airbags and Toyota Safety Sense. Hybrid-related components are backed by an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty. The Toyota Prius Prime is all-new for 2017.
