Here's Geely's spin on the Volvo XC40: the concept car the Chinese carmaker calls the Concept Icon. The Concept Icon was unveiled today at the Beijing Auto Show, and it's been designed at Geely's Shanghai studio.
Lexus gave us a good preview of the new ES luxury sedan ahead of its Beijing reveal, and now we get to see the real thing. Visually, it's pretty typical Lexus fare. It has the ever-controversial "spindle" grille up front with either form-following slats on standard models, or a sportier mesh on the new F Sport trim, a first for the model. It's about 2 inches, give or take a few tenths, longer both in overall length and wheel base and wider than the previous model. The F Sport also adds a rear sp
Mercedes has officially unveiled its Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept following a leak of most of the details last week. As we learned last week, the unusual looking sedan-SUV crossbreed is fully electric with four motors producing a whopping 750 horsepower. Combined with an 80 kWh battery, Mercedes estimates it should have a range of over 200 miles on the European test cycle. It also can handle extremely fast charging from DC chargers outputting 350 kW. Mercedes claims this allows it to
BMW recently announced its intention to skip next year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, issuing a statement about re-evaluating its trade-show strategy that amounted to the age-old "It's not you, it's me." Only this time it appears to be true: Bimmer is now planning to significantly pare back its presence at the 2019 show in Frankfurt, in its own backyard.
We've written about Volvo's interior concepts earlier, including different Lounge Consoles presented in 2015 and 2016 for the XC90 and S90, respectively. The idea with these is that a sumptuous Volvo interior is turned into something even more rarified, as the backseat passenger either wants to get some work done while on the move, or to just relax in a comfortable ambience. That basic idea has been honed again for this year's Beijing Auto Show, where Volvo debuts the S90 Ambience Concept.
Just last month, we learned that the new all-electric BMW iX3 crossover would debut soon at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show. On Friday, BMW finally revealed a short teaser video on Twitter, showing off a new take on the company's iconic grille design. Though next week's car may simply be a concept, it's the first we've seen of the German automaker's answer to the Jaguar i-Pace and upcoming Audi E-Tron.
Just days ago, we posted the interior teaser image Mercedes-Maybach released of its Ultimate Luxury concept due to be presented at the Beijing Motor Show. Now photos of the entire vehicle, inside and out, have leaked online courtesy of the manufacturer.
On this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Green Editor John Beltz Snyder and Associate Editor Joel Stocksdale. We talk about driving the 2018 Ford Ecosport and Hyundai Accent. Joel tells us why he loves the naturally aspirated engine in our long-term Honda Ridgeline. We discuss Tesla's profitability claims, Johan de Nysschen leaving Cadillac and a possible date change for the Detroit Auto Show. As usual, we'll also spend a listener's money on a car.
Polestar's halo coupe, the shapely Polestar 1 is about to get its China debut at the Auto China show in Beijing next week, after its global presentation at the Geneva Motor Show last month. It arrives at the China show with greetings from snowy Sweden, as Polestar has released this test footage from the Swedish Arctic Circle.
In addition to the all-electric Enspire crossover concept revealed this week ahead of the Beijing auto show, Buick is adding a new production variant to its Velite series of electrified vehicles for China. It's called the Velite 6, a plug-in hybrid that will launch this year in Buick's largest market, with a full-electric version, shown in the lead photo above at right, coming later.
Mercedes-Maybach posted a teaser video of what it calls "the ultimate in luxury" last week, saying that the featured, yet-to-be-named vehicle would be presented in the Beijing Motor Show. Now there's a teaser sketch giving us a wider look of the concept's interior, as well as a name.
After revealing the grille of the 2019 Lexus ES last week, Lexus posted a single photo of the whole shebang this morning. Only two sentences accompanied the image: "The all-new ES springs from a reimagined luxury equation. Engaging design, athletic performance, and renowned refinement transform Lexus's most popular sedan." We could be forced to wait until the Beijing reveal on April 25 for substantial info on that transformation, but based on what we already suspect, the coming ES has big britch
Last week, we posted some leaked images of the new BMW M2 Competition, accidentally distributed by BMW Australia. Now, the time has come for the official wraps to come off the M2 Competition ahead of the Beijing Motor Show.
For the Beijing Auto Show, Buick is showing yet another crossover, this one in concept form. It's called the Buick Enspire, and unlike the rest of the brand's crossovers, this one is all electric. It's more than just a repurposed Bolt EV, too. Instead of the Bolt's 150 kW and 200-horsepower motor, the Buick has a 410 kW motor, which equates to 550 horsepower. Buick claims the motor will get the crossover to 60 mph in just 4 seconds.
The future of Detroit's North American International Auto Show may still be in flux, as organizers mull whether to leapfrog the annual event from January to October, but new numbers around media coverage from this year's show illustrate why moving the event isn't exactly a no-brainer.
Mercedes-Maybach builds some of the most kitted out and opulent production cars in the world. Think of the Maybach S 560 and S 650 as a Mercedes S-Class taken to the next level. Today, Mercedes-Maybach revealed a new teaser for what looks like a concept for a new EV. The car is set to debut in just a few weeks at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show. This might be the Maybach SUV we reported on a few weeks back.
Lexus has shared a teaser image of a yet-unnamed future production car, which we believe to be the upcoming ES. The now-familiar spindle grille fills almost the entire image, which Lexus has served us with the tagline "Expect the Unexpected".
The partnership between Italy's Pininfarina design house and Hong Kong-based electric vehicle supplier Hybrid Kinetic Group will bring two new concept vehicles to the Auto China Show in Beijing April 25, including an electric sedan teased in a pair of photos.
One of the biggest stunners of the New York Auto Show came from an unlikely stand — that of Genesis, Hyundai's nascent luxury spinoff. The Genesis Essentia Concept was described as a multi-motor EV with a 0-60 time of 3 seconds and enough silicon to pass the Turing test, but that's not what made it special. It stood out because it's downright gorgeous, a proper show car seemingly plucked from the golden age of pre-OPEC oil embargo dream machines.
