Uber and Lyft are offering free or discounted rides to the polls

Other ride-sharing services also have deals available

Both Uber and Lyft are offering free or discounted rides to everybody today in an effort to encourage people to vote. We're already part way through election day, so if you haven't voted yet, here are the deals on offer:

Uber

To begin with, Uber sent out more than 15,000 promo codes for free rides to and from the polls. Now, there's a $10 discount it's offering to everyone. Taking advantage of it is relatively simple. Just go into the app, then tap Menu > Payment > Add Promo Code and enter Uber's promotional code: VOTE2018. Once you've done this, Uber will apply the discount when you request a ride using their in-app polling place locator. It'll only apply the discount if you choose the cheapest ride option available to you, though.

Lyft

The Lyft discount isn't quite as good, but it's offering 50 percent off your ride to a voting location. Strangely enough, the discount isn't available to go back home. What Lyft is doing, though, is providing free rides to "underserved communities that face significant obstacles to transportation." The 50-percent-off discount is available to access through Buzzfeed, so go here to start the process, so you can type in the promo code on the Lyft app.

Other discounted personal transportation options are available today, too. Bike-sharing programs in most major cities are offering free rides today to encourage people to vote. Also, if Lime is in your city, you'll be able to get up to 30 minutes of free time on an E-scooter to and from polling locations.

There's still plenty of time until the polls close, folks. If nothing else, it's a great excuse to go for a drive, and that's something we can all agree on this election season.
