Turns out the Model 3 at $35,000 might not be the lowest price point Tesla could hit for a new electric vehicle. In a video interview with popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee, Elon Musk estimated that Tesla could hit a price point of $25,000 in three years, but only if they "work really hard" on further technical achievements and economies of scale.
Of course it's worth noting that, as much as the idea of a $25,000 Tesla sounds intriguing, the Model 3 still isn't available at that aforementioned $35,000 price point. And it probably won't be for quite some time. According to Tesla's ordering page, the least-expensive Tesla Model 3 you can currently order starts around $50,000. A Dual Motor all-wheel-drive Model 3 starts at $54,000 and the Performance version of that car costs at least $64,000.
Though we've heard it before, Musk again shared the list of vehicles that are most likely to be traded in for a new Model 3. We're not really surprised to see the Toyota Prius at the top of the trade-in list, or the Nissan Leaf at number 5. And the BMW 3 Series in second place makes sense, as that car comes in at a similar price point as the Model 3. But it's interesting that the Honda Civic and Accord take up the other two spots.
There are some other noteworthy tidbits that came out of the interview, such as the possibility of removable side-view mirrors on the next-gen Tesla Roadster for improved aerodynamics. Check out the video above for the full interview.
