Florida man faces 12 DUI counts after striking 17 parked cars

Police say he smashed through the gate of the Gate Apartments complex and went on a demolition derby, crashing into 17 parked cars while trying to park his own SUV early in the morning in an alcoholic stupor.

Now, 25-year-old Tony Futch of Orlando faces 12 counts of driving under the influence, DUI property damage and refusal to submit to a breath sample. He was released after posting $19,000 bond, according to the Osceola County Corrections Department.

No one was hurt in the incident, which took place Friday outside the apartment complex in suburban ChampionsGate, Fla. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Futch rammed through the metal gate with his 2003 Chevrolet Blazer, then drove in circles and went on a weaving course, striking the cars in eight different crashes.

"He started hitting cars. He started from there, ended over there," witness John Ristic told ABC affiliate WFTV. "We were scared he was going to run over and kill someone."

Futch was pepper-sprayed after reportedly becoming combative during his arrest. Police said he smelled heavily of alcohol but refused to submit to a breath sample.

Futch had two prior DUI convictions in 2013 and had his license revoked after the second, WFTV reported.
