Volkswagen will launch a production version of the I.D. Buzz electric microbus in 2022, according to a report from Automotive News Europe. Inside sources told the publication that VW CEO Herbert Diess and VW light commercial vehicle boss Eckhard Scholz will make an announcement regarding the production of the I.D. Buzz at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Saturday.

Volkswagen has revealed three electric I.D. concepts: the original I.D. hatchback, the I.D. Crozz crossover and the I.D. Buzz. We've been told that the I.D. hatchback will launch first, but won't come to the U.S. I.D. Crozz will be the first to come to the U.S., probably in late 2020 or 2021. We've also been told that the Buzz could make it to production, thanks to VW's MEB modular platform, but that it wouldn't come until a later date – 2025 perhaps – if it arrived at all.

If there is an announcement about the I.D. Buzz at the Concours, that would be an indication that the Buzz could also be offered in America. According to ANE, it could be offered both though VW's passenger vehicle dealers, as well as its LCV division. It could also mean that VW is planning larger commercial versions.

We've reached out to Volkswagen for comment, and will update the post if we hear back. Otherwise, we're hoping for confirmation from California this weekend.

UPDATE: Volkswagen declined to comment.
