DAVID GLUCKMAN: Hey, it's David Gluckman. And in this Autoblog Short Cut, I want to give you a quick overview of the 2017 Porsche Panamera's Porsche Advanced Cockpit. So right in front of me here, we've got a big analog tachometer, which is flanked by two screens. And the screens are operated by a thumb switch on either side.

So I can scroll through different kind of fake gauges here that show me different things on the right side. So these have to do with driving. There's Night View Assist, but it's daytime, so it's kind of right there.

And then on the left side, if I switch over, you can see there's another thumb switch here. And the left screen gives me kind of speed and assist information, so for the adaptive cruise control that this model has and things like that.

The other part of this is a 12.3-inch center screen that we have here. So you can kind of scroll through different items on the screen, cap them, choose what you want to adjust. You can also get to those same functions with these touch buttons down here, which make a--

[CLICKING]

--similar clicking noise even though they don't-- they're not actually buttons, but they make a click sound like I pressed a button.

So as you can see, I can change different items on here. It's a nice system, but it almost has too many things to adjust. And it's also a little bit difficult sometimes to tell what is or isn't a button. So things up here-- some of them are buttons. Some of them aren't.

On the right side, we've got this button for the spoiler. If I press that, you can see it's underlined in red so you know it's activated. You also see a little animation there of the spoiler moving out. And I can show you that going back if I press that button again. The spoiler I think will come down. Well, maybe not.

Anyway, there's yet another part to this. There is this control panel down here. It's kind of a black panel that you can adjust things on. So this also makes a clicking noise, but you have to press to do it. And this gives you a haptic feedback to make it seem like you're pressing a button, but there's no indentations to show you that you're actually-- that you can feel or anything like that. It's all just flat, but you've got these buttons that you can control things like the climate control, and the seat heaters, and the seat coolers, and stuff like that.

And then in the middle, there is an electronic shifter. So you can kind of rock it back and forth for reverse, neutral, drive. Slap it over for manual. And press this button to get park.

So that's just an overview of the controls in the 2017 Porsche Panamera with the Porsche Advanced Cockpit.
