Movie news outlet Moviefone reports that Vin Diesel thinks the next Fast and Furious installment will win an Oscar. The outlet reports Diesel told Entertainment Tonight that, with a darker story line and F. Gary Gray at the helm, it has a good chance of attention from voters. Gray is certainly an accomplished filmmaker, having directed Straight Outta Compton, but we feel like there's only so much you can do with an over-the-top series such as Fast and Furious. Diesel has confidence though.

"I think he went into making this movie with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder, going 'Oh, really? OK. Now I'm going to take the biggest saga in the world, and I'm about to throw Oscars at you.' Wait until you see what he does!" Diesel said, referring to Gray somewhat controversially missing out on an Oscar last year.

Even though we don't think Fast 8 will bring home the Oscar that Diesel is expecting, there are many types of Oscar awards. There are awards for sound, visual effects, and other technical awards. Considering the spectacular stunts of previous outings in the franchise, and those of the upcoming movie, we supposed there could be award-winning possibilities for the film. But something like best film or best actor... well, that sounds like a bit of a stretch.
