Jay Leno on GT40s, poseur supercars, and his favorite project

Catching up with everybody’s favorite car collector.

Jay Leno is probably the most famous and outgoing of all serious car collectors out there, and the best part about that is his impeccable taste. The man loves all kinds of rare and oddball cars that gets our pulse elevated, and we're lucky he shares those experiences through his Jay Leno's Garage YouTube channel and broadcast show on CNBC.

He's also not afraid to tell it like it is, which is refreshing. I sat down with Leno at this year's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, in the garages just behind the starting line at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to pick his brain on a couple of topics that were on the collective Autoblog mind. We talked about Ford's legendary GT40, a collection of which were on display on the concours lawn, supercars that are too easy to drive, Detroit and the Woodward Dream Cruise, and his favorite project car.

As you could probably guess from what's in his collection, or how he talks about his projects on screen, Leno is no casual car guy. He cares and knows deeply, and that came across vividly in our interview. Take a few minutes and check out the conversation.
