Are you an automotive technician wanting to improve and gain the skills and certifications that Honda dealerships, and other service centers are searching for? Then you may want to get Honda dealership certified. With certification through Honda you would be qualified to work on Honda vehicles and show employers and customers that you possess the knowledge and skills that they need. Below we will discuss the two simple ways to become a Honda dealership certified technician and get an automotive technician job.

Honda technician career training at a technical institute

Honda offers a two-year Professional Automotive Career Training (PACT) program, where you’ll learn to diagnose, maintain, and repair Honda vehicles. While enrolled in the program, you will have the ability to earn 10 valuable certifications.

While enrolled at PACT, you will encounter electrical fundamentals, fuel and emissions, and engines. You will also learn about PACT standards, operations and procedures that are currently used in the field.

During this course, you will get training in:

  • Engine repair
  • Brakes
  • Maintenance and inspection
  • Electrical systems and electronics
  • Steering and suspension
  • Diesel engine performance
  • HVAC

Two avenues of the PACT program

If enrolled in the PACT program, you can choose to take a specific area certificate, or a two-year associate’s degree. The subject area certificate is within Honda/Acura's factory training certifications. Or you can combine general education courses with Honda/Acura's factory training certifications to earn an Associate’s degree. In this program, you will focus on the balance of interpersonal, academic and automotive general maintenance and repair skills.

If you are unsure about whether school is a good choice for you, why not contact a PACT Coordinator and talking to them about your goals? Go to http://hondapact.com/about/programs and find a school close to you that offers PACT Training.

If you are already working at a Honda dealership or your business maintains a fleet of Honda vehicles, you can get Honda dealership certified with Honda Fleet Technical Training. Honda offers a variety of Fleet Technical Training courses, depending on your fleet and your business or dealership’s needs. Courses are taught on-site for your convenience, and can be modified depending on the vehicles you will be maintaining or repairing most often.

This program offers a number of benefits, including hands-on learning and technical assistance. In the program, you will take classes on:

  • Maintenance
  • Electrical Advance
  • Electrical Fundamentals
  • Brake System
  • Engine
  • Drive Train/Transmission
  • Air Conditioning
  • Restraints
  • Steering and Suspension
  • Fuel and Emissions basics

In addition to classes like these, Honda also offers Honda Service Technical College (STC), a program to help businesses and dealerships get more complete technical training for their vehicles. If you’re already working at a Honda dealership, and you want your Honda dealership certification, this may be the route for you.

Whichever choice you make, becoming a Honda dealership certified technician could only improve your chances of working in a service center or dealership, and of making you a better overall mechanic.
