Now if you were a fan of either the toy, the game, or both, you can take a little nostalgia trip with the new Micro Machines game for iOS. The game is developed by Codemasters, the company behind the NES original. You may also recognize the developer from their other major racing titles such as Dirt and Grid. The company took the original premise of tiny cars racing around someone's house and modeled everything in 3D.
Like the original, you compete in four-player races avoiding household objects like paperclips, pencils and plates, all while trying not to fall off the edge of a table. You'll also encounter characters from the original. Codemasters didn't stop there though, as now you will be able to pick up power-ups to smash your opponents or boost ahead. These power-ups play a role in the new battle mode as well. And you won't just be facing off against computer opponents as the game features online multiplayer to compete against human opponents from around the world.
The game features 60 cars to collect, many vehicle upgrades and a total of three game modes. Codemasters also says additional downloadable content is on the way. The game is available now for free on the Apple App Store. It is also worth noting that this game features in-app purchases to unlock additional items and to bypass timers on particular events or upgrades. Otherwise, Micro Machines is a fun little game to pass the time in line, on the bus or on your couch.
