Mercedes-AMG E63 spotted wagon its tail

Mercedes gave us a taste of things to come when it released the new AMG E43 just the other day. But the truly power-obsessed among us know that's only a prelude. What we're looking forward to even more is the E63, and here it's been spotted. In wagon form.

Though still heavily camouflaged, we can see from this prototype that the E63 (with whatever type of cargo compartment) will wear a radically different face from lesser E-Class models – E43 included. That means bigger air openings, of course, but also a different hood. The bonnet will not only be more muscular to house the bigger engine underneath, but will also feature a clamshell design similar to what we've seen on the S-Class coupe.

The bigger question is what we'll find underneath that powerful hood. We'll have to wait to find out, but we'll likely be dealing with a version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 like the one in the C63 and GT, tuned to deliver some 600 horsepower. It'll likely exhale through four exhaust pipes flanking the diffuser, but we can already see hints of the wider fenders, upgraded brakes and rolling stock, and more aggressive aero. Look for the new performance sedan/wagon to raise the bar when it debuts at the Paris Motor Show in October, with one length of roof or another.
