Runaway dump truck demolishes house

An unlicensed North Carolina driver caused an accident that sent a dump truck careening into an empty house earlier this month. Willie R. Woodward of Fuquay-Varina was traveling eastbound on Harnett Central School Road when he ran a stop sign at NC 210. When he entered the intersection, he struck a 2013 Peterbilt dump truck traveling southbound on NC 210. The truck driver, Tony Spainhour of Holly Springs, lost control of the truck and careened off the highway. He then plowed through a yard and crashed into an unoccupied house. Woodward's 1995 Ford Taurus came to a stop in the southbound lane of NC 210.

WRAL Sky5 video captured the aftermath of the crash. Aerial footage clearly showed where the ruts that the dump truck left in the homeowner's yard and the truck sitting halfway through the exterior wall of a small brick house. First responders and tow trucks arrived on the scene tending to the injured drivers and damaged vehicles. Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the crash.

Woodward was transported to WakeMed Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with failing to stop for a stop sign, driving with a revoked license, and operating a vehicle with a fictitious licence plate. Mr. Spainhour was transported to Harnett Central Hospital, where he was treated for not-life-threatening injuries.
