Looking at a Volvo in T6 AWD spec, but wish it had a bit more oomph? Polestar is here to help. Volvo's adopted performance division recently rolled out some upgrades to the XC90 in that spec, and is now extending the enhancements to its smaller range as well. And what's more is that it's offering those enhancements here in the United States.

Now available for the S60, V60, and XC60 in T6 AWD trim, the Polestar Optimization package offers some measurable performance gains. Peak output rises from 302 horsepower to 306, and torque from 295 pound-feet to 317. That's enough to shave a tenth of a second off the 0-60 time, but as Polestar spokesman Johan Meissner explained to Autoblog, "the optimization isn't about increasing peak power or acceleration times."

The enhancement package, wrote Meissner, "is about improving drivability overall in every-day situations by including the entire powertrain in the optimization, compared to the previous generation which was for the engine only." As a result, the upgraded Volvos benefit from faster gearshifts, better throttle response, and more power available in the mid-range. Despite the broadened approach, however, Polestar is charging the same as it did for its previous package. It'll be available from Volvo dealers this week for $1,495 to install on new or existing models.

Polestar introduces Performance Optimisation for T6 AWD

The new generation Polestar Performance Optimisation has been made available for Volvo's award winning Drive-E T6 models with four-wheel drive.

The optimisation was previously only available for the all-new Volvo XC90 T6 AWD, but is from today available for the S60, V60 and XC60 T6 AWD models.

"The already powerful and agile T6 AWD models become even more dynamic and responsive to drive with the Polestar Optimisation. We have spent countless hours on creating a balanced package for performance oriented Volvo drivers, using the same philosophy and methods as for our race and performance cars," said Thed Björk, racing and development driver for Polestar Cyan Racing.

The key to the improved performance and responsiveness of the Polestar Optimisation originates from including the entire powertrain in the optimisation, instead of only the engine as in the past.

Five important areas are optimised in the form of increased mid-range engine performance, faster gearshifts, optimised throttle response, optimised gearshift timing and an off-throttle functionality.

All changes of the Polestar optimisations are made with certified emissions, fuel consumption, service intervals and Volvo warranties unchanged.
