Do you love camping, getting back to nature and enjoying life in the great outdoors? If you do, then you know that getting there can be half the fun, and it’s even better if you have a great ride.
We’ve evaluated several used vehicles, and have come up with our top five for camping. They are the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Expedition, Jeep Wrangler, and Chevrolet Suburban.
Honda CR-V: This is the perfect camping ride for small families, or couples. It’s available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and is easy on gas (up to 27 mpg highway) even when you’re carrying the whole family and all their gear. It handles very nicely, too, and has 72.9 cubic feet of cargo room.
Hyundai Santa Fe: This is a solid entry into the SUV category, with zippy V6 power and a stylish appearance. It can be upgraded to seven-passenger seating, and has consistently been a top pick with the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). It also has plenty of room, with a 78.2 cubic foot cargo capacity.
Ford Expedition: The Expedition is a big, solid SUV that seats eight people while still offering plenty of space for everything you need to take with you on your camping trip. The interior is comfortable, and you’ll find you can change lanes, pass and merge with ease. It features a whopping 108.3 cubic feet of cargo space.
Jeep Wrangler: For many people, the Wrangler is synonymous with camping. If your idea of camping means roughing it, the Wrangler will take you pretty much anywhere that you want to go – you don’t have to stick to the beaten path. You can carry 82 cubic feet of cargo in the Wrangler.
Chevy Suburban: Yes, we know they’re huge, and we know they’re not all that great on gas and not all that eco-friendly, but this is one luxurious rig! We’re not recommending that you make it your “getting around town” vehicle, but if you want to travel and camp in total comfort, the ’Burb, with its whopping 137.4 cubic feet of cargo space, is definitely worth considering.
Couples, small families, or the whole gang should agree that this is a selection of great SUVs for any camping contingent.
