The 2012 Honda Fit EV is lots of fun to drive and offers a smooth ride to passengers. It is Honda’s first pure electric car, and it offers a range of 70 to 123 miles between charges. The Fit EV offers 189ft/lb of torque which gives it great acceleration. It is more powerful than its competitors, such as the Civic Natural Gas.
The Fit EV gets up to 132 mi while driving in the city and 105 mi on the highway. For combined city and highway driving, the Fit EV is estimated to get 76 mi. Instead of an engine, the vehicle has a 20kWh lithium ion battery pack and a 92-kw electric motor which powers the front axle. The top speed of the car is 90 mph and has a range of up to 123 miles between charges. To charge the Honda Fit EV, it will take 12 hours from a 120 volt outlet or three hours from an outlet with a 240 volt supply.
Changes for 2012
There are no changes for 2012 as this is the first model of the Honda Fit EV. Currently, the Honda Fit EV can only be leased and there is no purchase option at the end of the lease. In July of 2014, Honda announced the end of the production of the vehicle.
What We Like
The car is extremely smooth to drive and switching to Sport mode makes it easy to pass slower traffic. Impact absorbing materials are installed on the front fender to minimize injuries in case of an accident involving a pedestrian making this vehicle a forerunner in safety. The vehicle is also very quiet, so quiet that you can hardly tell it is running.
What Concerns us
The GPS system is not anything that stands out. You are better off using your phone or looking at a map.
The Honda Fit EV has three different driving modes. These are: econ, normal, and sport. Econ will extend the driving range by 17% when compared to normal mode. While it is in sport mode, the vehicle imitates the acceleration of a car with a 2.0 liter engine.
There are no recalls for this vehicle.
Consumers have complained of paint peeling off the car after owning the vehicle for a year. Another complaint is the battery dies constantly, even when the gauge says the battery is still good.
