VW's new $1,000 Goodwill Package wants to 'Make Things Right'

Money Will Be Paid Half As Gift Card, Half VW Cash To TDI Owners

Will $1,000 be enough to make your VW diesel woes go away? How about if it's really just $500? This is the question that VW is starting to answer with its new Goodwill Package. The short version is that VW will be giving owners of its diesel cars that have the now-infamous diesel defeat software installed two gift cards. One is a $500 card that can be used pretty much anywhere, the other is a $500 card to be used at your local VW dealer. VW is also offering affected owners a new (or extended) three-year, 24-hour roadside-assistance deal. VW's new tagline for this offer? "We're Working to Make Things Right."

It's not a one-step process for a dirty diesel owner to take advantage of VW's deal here. You first need to sign up for the Goodwill Package online. Once you get the cards from VW, you then need to drive your affected 2.0-liter TDI vehicle over to a VW dealer, who can activate the cards. VW has made it clear that vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 TDI are not eligible for the Goodwill Program because, " Volkswagen is currently investigating the allegations regarding 3.0L V-6 engines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board on November 2 and is cooperating fully with the agencies."

Owners have until April 30, 2016 to register for the Goodwill Package. Also, if you sold or otherwise got rid of your dirty diesel after the bad news came in September but before November 8th, you can't get the $1,000. You can get all of the official details here.

We're Working to Make Things Right.

On September 18, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board notified Volkswagen that certain 2.0L 4-cylinder TDI vehicles do not comply with applicable emissions regulations.

Over the past several weeks, we've apologized to our loyal customers about the 2.0L TDI emissions issue. As we work tirelessly to develop a remedy, we ask for your continued patience.

In the meantime, we're providing affected 2.0L TDI® owners with a $500 Volkswagen Prepaid Visa® Loyalty Card, a $500 Volkswagen Dealership Card, and no-charge 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years*. We sincerely hope you see this as a first step toward restoring your invaluable trust.
