Tire Launched Into Stands During Monterey Car Week Race

The Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is usually full of excitement, but one race over the weekend got a little too thrilling for some spectators after a crash launched a tire into the stands.

The reunion race is part of Monterey Car Week, and it gives classic race car owners a chance to open up their vintage autos and push them to the limit. Unfortunately for driver Ken Epsman, that limit was reached and a wheel spoke shattered on his Chevy Monza, according to Autoblog.

Once the wheel was free of the car it flew into stands filled with spectators. Luckily, Epsman was uninjured in the crash and no one was hurt by the flying tire.
