Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond could be getting a lot more time on your TV screen, as the BBC has announced that Top Gear will lead the launch of a new, global, male-oriented channel called BBC Brit, later this year. Think of it as Spike TV with a side of bangers and mash.

BBC Brit is described as "the best of British content from motoring, business, documentaries and adventure to food, music and sport," and to kick off, it will rely rather heavily on TG to fill out its programming. Other shows will include the BBC's Dragons' Den (US audiences should be familiar with its colonial cousin, Shark Tank).

"There is a gap in the global market for a male-skewing factual entertainment destination. BBC Brit will capture the maverick spirit of our premium factual entertainment programming," said Tim Davie, the chief exec of BBC Worldwide, the Beeb's commercial arm responsible for soaking up all the monies made by shows like Top Gear.

It's unclear at this early stage if BBC Brit will be made available to American audiences (BBC America already relies rather heavily on TG repeats), or how it would be integrated into current cable lineups if it is picked up.
