Car Crashes Onto Roof During Police Chase

Family at home at the time uninjured.

A South Carolina family awoke to find a car had crashed onto their roof early Saturday morning.

The Columbia Police Department told WISTV one of their officers noticed a car driving erratically with its headlights off around 2 a.m. Anton Ashley, 21, was behind the wheel and didn't stop when cops attempted to pull him over.

During the chase Ashley lost control around a curve. He hit an embankment, sending his car sailing through the air and onto the roof of a nearby house. The family inside the house was not injured.

Ashley temporarily escaped police, but was taken into custody Sunday night. He is charged with reckless driving, driving under suspension, hit and run with property damage, littering, failing to stop for police and selling crack cocaine.
