In the first week of January, news organizations including AOL Autos reported on data released by Ward's Auto that showed Toyota to be the most recalled automotive brand of 2011.

Turns out, an expanded recall issued by Honda for faulty airbag inflators late last year pushed it past Toyota into the lead, with 17 total recalls affecting 3.9 million vehicles in 2011. Toyota, with 3.5 million recalled vehicles placed second and Ford came in third with 3.2 million.

The late Honda recall affects almost 1.7 million '01-'04 model-year vehicles including the Civic, Civic Hybrid, and Accord sedans; CR-V and Pilot cross/utility vehicles; Odyssey minivan; and Acura CL and TL.
