Just days before
its scheduled attempt to smash the
existing electric vehicle lap record at the famed
Nürburgring Nordschleife,
Toyota Motorsports GmbH (TMG) has reportedly decided to sell the heart and soul of its electric racer in limited quantities.
Word is that Toyota Motorsports' goal is to establish itself as a leader in the development of custom racecars. To that end, TMG says that sales of the electric powertrain technology housed within the racer's Radical Sportscars SR9 body will be available to purchase in 2012.
What this means is that buyers will get the racer's electric drivetrain, battery and control integration supplied by rational motion GmbH, its twin electric motors built by EVO Electric and some trick lithium-ceramic batteries. What buyers don't get is the Radical Sportcars' racy body and its lightweight chassis.
No word on pricing, but we'd expect cash to be no object for the limited few looking to build their own radical electric racer.
