Nissan Canada certifies 27 Leaf dealerships

Nissan of Canada has listed the 27 dealers that will initially sell and service the $38,395 ($39,003 U.S. at the current exchange rate) electric Leaf. The dealers, according to Nissan, have undergone specialized training and modified their service departments to gear up for the arrival of the Leaf.

Canadian deliveries of the few Leafs bound for that country have already begun for some fleet customers. In late August, Nissan will open up the order books to reserve a Leaf, but only to those registered on the automaker's website and who reside within the vicinity of a Nissan Leaf-certified dealership.

Nissan says that eventually all of its Canadian dealers will be Leaf-certified, but the primary focus at launch is on the retailers located in regions where Nissan has established partnerships with local governments or utilities. NISSAN CANADA ANNOUNCES RETAIL NETWORK FOR ALL-ELECTRIC NISSAN LEAF

– 27 Nissan LEAF Certified Retailers across Canada –

Nissan Canada Inc. (NCI) today announced 27 selected Nissan retailers have passed the rigorous certification process to sell, support and service the all-electric Nissan LEAF in Canada. Nissan LEAF certified retailers have modified sales and service departments and undergone specialized training to provide the unique customer and vehicle service required, in time for the Nissan LEAF launch in the Canadian market.

Deliveries have begun for some Canadian fleet customers and in late August, Nissan will open up online reservations for the Nissan LEAF to those already registered at www.nissan.ca/leaf and who live within the vicinity of a certified dealer.

"An all-electric car has different sales and service requirements and our rigorous training and certification process will ensure Nissan LEAF drivers have an exceptional ownership experience," said Michael Colleran, Regional Vice President of Field Sales and Sales Operations, Nissan Canada, Inc. "We're very pleased by the response from our dealer network who is looking forward to bringing the 2011 World Car of the Year to the Canadian market."

With a lithium-ion battery at the heart of the Nissan LEAF, special lifts and pallets to handle the battery, along with EV-skilled technicians, are required to service the car. With no engine, no oil and very few moving parts, the Nissan LEAF requires much less maintenance and service than a vehicle with an internal combustion engine.

Eventually, all Nissan dealers across Canada will be EV-certified but the primary focus at launch are those retailers located in regions where Nissan has established partnerships with local governments or utilities support the adoption of electric vehicles.

About the Nissan LEAF
One of the industry's most-discussed vehicles for good reason, Nissan LEAF™ is the first all-electric production vehicle in the world and was recently named the 2011 World Car of the Year.

Nissan LEAF is a medium-size hatchback with ample cargo space and seating for five adults comfortably. With a range of 160 kilometres (EPA LA4 cycle) on one full charge, Nissan LEAF provides 90% of Canadians with the range needed for daily commutes. With a 240 volt home charging dock full charge is achieved in seven hours, and with a Level 3 Quick Charger, 80% charge can be achieved in just 26 minutes.

Powered by a lithium-ion battery, Nissan LEAF generates 107 horsepower, 207 lb-ft of torque providing a highly responsive, fun-to-drive experience. Because there's no traditional engine, Nissan LEAF is ultra-quiet and for safety reasons a sound had to be added so pedestrians could hear the car coming. In April, Nissan LEAF was awarded a "Top Safety Pick" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The instrument panel provides the driver with regular updates on range and driving efficiency, and using a telematics system called CARWINGS, the driver can communicate with the car via a smart phone with the ability to turn on the air conditioning or heat remotely, and manage and monitor charging.
