The city of Prague, which is the capital of the Czech Republic, took delivery of its first plug-in vehicle; a Smart Fortwo Electric Drive. The city intends to utilize the electric Smart as an emergency response vehicle and is expecting 19 more Fortwo EDs to arrive soon.
The Smart ED will soon hit the streets of downtown Prague, where it will be used for rescue and emergency services on a trial basis. Prague's officials choose the electric Smart due to its compact size and maneuverability, which should allow it to weave through the city's dense traffic and arrive at the scene of an emergency. Prague's 20 Fortwo EDs will be provided via a partnership between power and gas provider E. ON and automaker Smart.
